I'm talking from experience with my AT, and my buddy's AT, and not other bikes. Glad your GS is working for ya.
As a reference, my XT1200 that logged 90k km on 60/40% road/off road had zero issues with the suspension.

Both 2017 ATs need new tubes at less than 15k km.
Honda has totally dropped the ball on the 2016/2017 bikes.
my forks are done at 13k km.. that's total shit.
Even if the bike was ridden on road, the coating will wear, as the design sucks balls.
The AT fork has:
-Excessive flex
-poor bushing placement design (too close to the end of the outer tube)
-Bushing thickness is insufficient, causing slop. This can be worked around with a shim or three behind the inner bushing
-valving is poor if used as intended
